Why Use a Zen Fountain?
Copyright (c) 2008 Steven Magill
The zen fountain is one of the best selling fountains on the market. These fountains are known for their swaying flow of water.
The water in such types of fountains flows in the upward direction and the area is covered with a high settled array of small pebbles. The water flows upward, clashes with the stones and this adds beauty to the entire fountain.
The sound that comes from the sound of the water fall is quite soothing to hear and creates quite a serene environment. The sound of water relaxes the mind of an individual and the zen fountain is known for its charismatic beauty.
The table top zen fountain is a stunning structure, with a look of the ancient zen era and this attracts the people and presents something different for the eyes those people who view it. It may be definitely called an “eye tonic” for those who are interested to have a view of the fountain. To purchase such a fountain, one needs to loosen up his pocket as it is not just available, rather constructed for specific orders in the market place as well.
One needs to keep in mind that these fountains are hand made fountains, therefore the shapes and textures may vary from fountain to fountain. The color may also differ as the slate used is not the same for each and every fountain. But the person who decides that he or she should purchase a Zen fountain is assured of a beautiful piece, which will call for other customers as well.
The dimensions of such the zen fountain are quite appropriate. It usually extends to only 12 square feet and it is usually only about 3-1/4″ high structure which is just as good as any other height. The overall weight of this fountain is approximately fifteen pounds. Now the dimensions must be quite clear and therefore it can be proved that the bulk of such fountain is apt for a larger area. One needs to consider all these things while purchasing such a great structure.
This water fountain usually comes in a black polystyrene base which is apt for the Zen garden as there is no such scope of getting dirty. The water pump that is attached to the Zen fountain is adjustable which means that there usually aren’t very many problems or confusion about its operation. The quality of this fountain is considered the best of all.
The water is properly circulated throughout the fountain through an electric water pump. The voltage application is quite minimal at 230V/50HZ and is something that can be afforded by an individual. The other specifications, such as the length of the electric wire, size and other details can be looked at while ordering it online. Now the ordering options are quite suitable for most people as such a fountain is equipped with many minute fittings and an individual can come across all of the specifications while viewing on the zen fountain on the internet.

"This little book is a joyous read. You will be given the powerful, loving freedom for you to be yourself."–Juanita "Catastrophe" Tobin, Poet–Blowing Rock, NC. Visitation in a Zen Garden $25.44 A zen garden is a sacred, meditative, and symbolic space-a microcosm representing the world. Every detail is meant to quiet the soul. Stepping stone paths and tiny bridges are deliberate means of slowing one down to enhance the meditative experience. In many such gardens, the whole garden cannot be viewed from a single vantage point. Rather, one discovers different views of the garden as one sits in a tea house, walks on a path, comes around a corner, or crosses over a bridge. There may be three prominent stones: a flat stone symbolizing earth, a large tall stone symbolizing heaven, and a stone lantern symbolizing the human element. And there may also be foxes -as was the case for Karlyn Ward. Visitation in a Zen Garden records in image and word what happens when a family of foxes takes up residence in the author’s backyard zen garden. Using her analytic experience, Karlyn Ward links the visitation with biology, behavior, wonder, and depth psychology. What could be the meaning of this close encounter with little wild animals "simply" being themselves in her own back yard? What is the symbolic meaning of the fox, and what did Jung have to say about it? Why does the fox "happen" to choose this garden at this time? Karlyn M. Ward, Ph.D., LCSW, is an analyst member of The C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco and has a private practice in Marin County, north of San Francisco. She has written and lectured about the psyche and music. Her DVD, Anchored in the Heart: Redeeming the Dark Feminine, explores the figure of Mary of Magdala in word, art, and music. Recently she has developed a fascination for foxes and all they represent. |

Reading Zen in the Rocks: The Japanese Dry Landscape Garden $19.59 The Japanese dry landscape garden has long attracted–and long baffled–viewers from the West. While museums across the United States are replicating these "Zen rock gardens" in their courtyards and miniature versions of the gardens are now office decorations, they remain enigmatic, their philosophical and aesthetic significance obscured. "Reading Zen in the Rocks," the classic essay on the "karesansui" garden by French art historian Francois Berthier, has now been translated by Graham Parkes, giving English-speaking readers a concise, thorough, and beautifully illustrated history of these gardens. Berthier’s guided tour of the famous garden of Ryoanji (Temple) in Kyoto leads him into an exposition of the genre, focusing on its Chinese antecedents and affiliations with Taoist ideas and Chinese landscape painting. He traces the roles of Shinto and Zen Buddhism in the evolution of the garden and also considers how manual laborers from the lowest classes in Japan had a hand in creating some of its highest examples. Parkes contributes an equally original and substantive essay which delves into the philosophical importance of rocks and their "language of stone," delineating the difference between Chinese and Japanese rock gardens and their relationship to Buddhism. Together, the two essays compose one of the most comprehensive and elegantly written studies of this haunting garden form. "Reading Zen in the Rocks" is fully illustrated with photographs of all the major gardens discussed, making it a handsome addition to the library of anyone interested in gardening, Eastern philosophy, and the combination of the two that the "karesansui" so superbly represents. Praise for the French edition: "A small book of rare depth, remarkably illustrated, on one of the most celebrated and beautiful rock gardens of the monasteries of Kyoto."–"L’Humanite" "Through "Le Jardin de Ryoanji," Berthier teaches us to read the zen in the rocks, to discover the language offered by the garden at Ryoanji. Enigmatic, poetic, and disconcerting, an enriching journey through a work of art of surprising modernity, "Le Jardin de Ryoanji" is a work that will interest all the amateurs of Japanese art and Eastern philosophy."–"Lien Horticole" |

The New Zen Garden: Designing Quiet Spaces $29.85 IN THE TRADITION OF JAPANESE TOUCH FOR YOUR GARDEN, THE PERFECT BOOK FOR CONTEMPOLATING A ZEN-STYLE GARDEN FOR HOME OR TOWNHOUSE, YARD OR BALCONY. Japanese gardens are renowned for their serene and peaceful ambiance. The New Zen Garden presents the Japanese garden as it exists today, with all its traditional qualities joined to modern architecture and viewed from a modern perspective. This book takes the concept introduced in the best-selling Japanese Touch for Your Garden and, focusing on the more contemplative gardens that are drawing greater and greater attention, blends it with a more practical approach. Lavishly illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs and featuring the works of contemporary garden designers and landscape architects, The New Zen Garden begins with a brief introduction of the history of the Japanese garden and its spiritual roots. It then guides the reader through the basics of garden concepts, layout, and personal needs. With a focus on small- and medium-size home gardens, author Joseph Cali introduces a visually explicit process in which anyone can conceive their own home garden, whether for a single-family residence or the balcony of an apartment or townhouse. Cali also includes a handful "spotlight sections" that feature guidance from prominent Japanese garden designers, each of whom steers the reader step-by-step through a specific building technique, including the making of textured clay walls, traditional stone walkways, and stone settings. The New Zen Garden provides a wealth of information on designing a garden to harmonize with any home or private space. It is a provocative eye-opener both for the serious Japanese garden enthusiast and the weekend gardener. |

Zen Without Zen Masters $16.53 The author says: "There are two approaches to getting into Zen. The formal approach is to study with a Japanese Zen Master. The informal approach is an individual study program using whatever materials are available, what I call Western Zen. I see it as the next step in the radical Zen tradition. Zen Without Zen Masters represents my attempt to share Western Zen with you." Zen Without Zen Masters is the first—and still the best—collection of truly contemporary Zen parables. For the novice, Zen Without Zen Masters is an outstanding introduction to the baffling world of meditation, Eastern thought and the galaxy of philosophies that make up the expanding horizon of human awareness. For the veteran, Benares integrates the "inner quest" with the experience of daily life. And if that weren’t enough, the section on Meditations and Exercises focuses the inner experience into an accessible form. |
