What is the difference between flash-based and HDD memory?

Hi! I am looking for a camcorder and need to know the difference b/t flash memory (integrated) and 120ish GB HDD? What is better, which “technology” is more recent? Why some people prefer flash or hdd’s?

I have the answer that is short and simple:
Flash Memory – Basically memory cards that you can record on and later send them to your computer.

HDD – A Hard Disk Drive where you record on a limited Hard Drive, then later send the files to your computer.

The 2 have pros and cons to them, but I would choose the HDD because you don’t have to worry about losing memory cards, or buying memory cards, or quickly grabbing the camcorder only to realize that you don’t have any memory in the camera. BAM! A moment that could have been captured, lost because of a situation that could have been avoided.
